Meatless Monday: The Hulk

Smoothie Bowls are definitely, maybe on my top 5 “things I like to eat” list. Creamy, delicious and tricks my mind into thinking that I am devouring ice-cream, but jokes on you sub-conscience, you’re eating the “good” stuff! HA!
If I had to give my husband a glass of food to drink (huh?) every day, he probably wouldn’t be the happiest camper. HOWEVER, putting a bowl of food (which is sneakily, actually a bowl of… drink?) he’d be well pleased. Placebo. Shakes head.
So, if you also prefer munching to slurping, then Smoothie Bowls are 100% for you!
“The Hulk" is so good, so fresh and packed with all the nutrients you could need to kick-start your week. Don’t worry, you won’t turn into an angered Mark Ruffalo - but your immune system will be sure to get a good boost.
The Hulk: Great source of vitamin K, vitamin B2, B6, E, and vitamin C. High in manganese, folate, magnesium, iron, and copper. Super source of antioxidants, and fiber.
One of the key ingredients for this particular bowl, is Spirulina Powder.
Spirulina is a type of bacteria, called cyanobacterium and grows in both fresh and salt water. It is loaded with nutrients and also contains anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.
Not only these benefits, but so much more!
Spirulina has been said to assist with anxiety and depression, and is a natural stress reliever. And just when you think it couldn’t get better… Spirulina, when consumed effectively, lowers bad cholesterol, purifies the liver, prevents heart disease, is an anti-allergy, anti-toxin, anti-viral, anti-fungal, it improves eye-health and boosts your metabolism.
So in simple terms, it’s “very good for you".
BUT be sure to not use more than the recommended amount in one serving, as the taste is quite... powerful. Always pair it with some form of a sweet fruit to balance it out.

*For the best consistency, first blend spinach and water, then add remaining ingredients and blend again.
The Hulk
Ingredients:
2 handfuls spinach, washed
1 banana, frozen
1 celery stalk, washed
1 green apple, peeled
1 kiwi fruit, peeled
1/2 tsp Spirulina Powder
1/2 tsp hemp powder
1/4 lime, peeled
1/2 cup filtered water
1/3 cup ice
If you wish to top it with anything: sugar-free granola, blueberries, coconut or kiwi
Method:
Place all ingredients in a blender (I use a NutriBullet)
Blend until smooth
Place in a bowl and sprinkle with your toppings of choice
