Having grown up, for the most part of my life in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, a place like this was VERY hard to come by through my teen years... Thankfully, now that I am at the age of "let's go for brunch" - the North is not all bad. Especially since the arrival of 1987 Eatery, at Hertex Fabrics.

1987 Eatery was a God-send to our little suburb. The breakfasts. The treats. The juice. Plates of deliciousness served to your table with kindness, jokes (if you've ever had Natalie as your waitron) and always leaves you wanting more.

Situated in the beautiful Hertex Fabrics, the location is perfection if you are out on a coffee date with your girls/boys/whomever you wish to be on a date with. However, if you have toddlers who are quite active, this may not be the greatest choice for you, solely for your personal comfort.

I've never seen a staff member turn away/frown upon a table with kids - but I have seen parents shyly avoid eye-contact, or spend their morning running after their offspring, making sure that none of the beautiful textiles, belonging to the upmarket store, gets damaged.

My preference is 100% their breakfast menu, even though the lunches do look mouthwateringly tasty! I have un-adventurously stuck to my usual, Benedict & Juice combo - but was recently treated to a glorious little High Tea too... WOW.

The High Tea, although not shown on the menu, consisted of burgers, quiche, eclairs, macarons and a few other treats (which have slipped my mind... pregnancy!) And the generosity of the portions had us wide-eyed and open-mouthed. Filling, yummy & will definitely book it for a future baby-shower/birthday/random-day-of-the-week.

Do yourself a favour & pop in to grab a quick bite, warm cuppa or a slice of scrumptious cake. It's well worth it.
